Acupuncture

At the VMC, we are dedicated to wellness and healing in small animals. Acupuncture is available as a complementary therapeutic option for medicine and surgery. As a Veterinarian and Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist, Dr. Fleckenstein has used acupuncture in conjunction with traditional therapies since 1998.

A centuries-old therapy, modern acupuncture includes massage, electrical stimulation, and low-power lacer stimulation in addition to traditional needle therapy.

Acupuncture speeds the healing process by stimulating nerves, relieving muscle spasm, increasing blood circulation and causing the release of endorphins (a hormone involved in controlling pain) and cortisol (a natural anti-inflammatory).

Acupuncture, herbal & other holistic treatment modalities can be used to treat many types of medical conditions.

  • Emergency & acute illness- such as vomiting, diarrhea, urinary obstruction, and CPR.
  • Post-operative rehabilitation- ideal for patients who have undergone spinal, hip, stifle, and other orthopedic or neurosurgical procedures, or for patients recovering from a major illness or undergoing cancer treatment.

Chronic medical conditions- that respond poorly to available "Western" treatments or patients suffering unwanted side effects from diseases, drugs or other forms of therapy (ie. radiation). Acupuncture is especially effective for treating severe arthritis and chronic pain syndromes.
