Michelle Burnett, DVM, CVA, CVPP
Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist, Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner
Growing up in Michigan, part of a large family with many mouths to feed, there were few if any pets in Dr. Michelle Burnett's family. "I’m sure my mother, who was afraid of most animals, wondered where I came from!" Dr. Burnett was the neighborhood pet sitter, hung out at the local Nature Center in the wild animal rehab center, and read every book about animals she could get her hands on.
"I think I was in 9th grade when a couple of dedicated and inspirational teachers revealed to me that I could become anything I wanted and that becoming a veterinarian was a reachable goal!"
Dr. Burnett graduated from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She spent around 20 years in general practice before joining the Veterinary Medical Center Emergency Service in 2008. Soon after joining the VMC, Dr. Burnett embarked on a mission to relieve pet pain. In 2013 she received her certification in veterinary acupuncture at the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine. She then completed extensive training, casework and a certifying examination to become certified as a veterinary pain practitioner thru the International Veterinary Association of Pain Management. Dr Burnett is 1 of only 4 certified veterinary pain practitioners here in the CNY area. (the other three are also employees of VMC and CARE Pet Therapy!)
